On April 9, 2025, three executive members of the ToakLink Community Association proudly represented their community at a significant consultation on the sustainable development plan for Malampa Province. Joined by representatives from the Endu and Sameou communities, the delegation gathered at the Vanuatu Chief’s Nakamal to discuss pressing issues and future plans for the region. The meeting, which ran from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, also saw the participation of Members of Parliament (MPs) from the province, who arrived later in the afternoon to lend their support and insights.
This consultation was a vital opportunity for community leaders to voice the needs of their people and collaborate on solutions that will shape the future of Malampa Province. Among the key issues raised, the ToakLink Community Association strongly advocated for the inclusion of a critical initiative in the province’s sustainable development plan: the purchase of a JCB or road grader for the South East Ambrym Area Council (AC). This equipment is seen as essential to address the deteriorating road conditions in southeast Ambrym, a challenge that has long affected accessibility, transportation, and economic opportunities for local residents.
“The state of our roads is a real barrier for our people,” said one of the ToakLink executives. “From getting goods to market to ensuring safe travel between villages, maintaining our roads is a priority that can’t be ignored. This meeting gave us a chance to push for practical solutions like the JCB, which could make a huge difference for southeast Ambrym.”
The day-long discussion covered a range of topics impacting the province, but the focus on infrastructure resonated deeply with attendees. The presence of the MPs underscored the importance of aligning community-driven priorities with provincial and national support. Their participation in the afternoon session fostered a collaborative atmosphere, bridging grassroots concerns with policymaking.
For the ToakLink Community Association and the representatives from Endu and Sameou, this consultation was more than just a meeting—it was a powerful platform to address the real issues affecting their communities. By bringing the road maintenance proposal to the forefront, they highlighted a tangible step toward improving daily life and fostering sustainable growth in southeast Ambrym.
As the Malampa Province sustainable development plan takes shape, the contributions from this consultation will play a crucial role in ensuring that the voices of local communities are heard and acted upon. The ToakLink Community Association remains committed to working alongside provincial leaders and residents to build a stronger, more connected future for all.
