A major milestone for the people of South East Ambrym is just around the corner, as the construction of the new Area Council building at Toak village is now nearing completion. The building is expected to be officially opened in June this year.
This important project is part of the Vanuatu Government’s ongoing decentralization efforts, aimed at bringing essential government services closer to rural communities and strengthening local governance. South East Ambrym, located in Malampa Province, is one of the many areas benefiting from this nationwide initiative.
The new council building features five offices, designed to accommodate key public services, including:
- The Area Administrator
- Climate Change Office
- Police Officer
- Agriculture Field Assistant
- Civil Registry
The building is strategically located at Toak village, making it more convenient for surrounding communities to access government support and services.
When speaking about the project, the South East Ambrym Area Administrator expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all community members who contributed their time, skills, and effort toward the construction of the building.
“This is a true community achievement,” he said. “I want to sincerely thank everyone who worked together to help bring this building to life. It shows the strength of unity and the spirit of cooperation we have here in South East Ambrym.”
As the finishing touches are being added, preparations are already underway for the official opening in June. The building is expected to play a vital role in strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and supporting development efforts in the region for years to come.
